The U.S. National Junior Team shut out Slovakia 5-0 in the preliminary round of the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship. With the win, Team USA, headed by Wisconsin head coach Mike Eaves, will face Sweden Tuesday.
Badger forward Jake Dowell earned an assist on the first goal, scored by forward David Booth (Michigan State). University of North Dakota forward Zach Parise had an assist and a goal while goaltender Al Montoya (Michigan) collected 18 saves. Team USA outshot Slovakia 43-18.
