Wisconsin cancels Spring Game; UW swimmer earns Big Ten Player of the Week; World Junior Championship game to air on tape delay

Spring Game cancelled due to construction

Wisconsin fans will have to wait until Sept. 4 to watch the Cardinal and White suit up. Construction in the south endzone has interfered with the goal post and endzone area, forcing the game to be cancelled.

"The construction in the south end zone has extended onto the playing surface and prevents us from having a full field to play on, but I know we all are going to love the finished product in the fall," head coach Barry Alvarez said in a release.

Wisconsin will tentatively begin spring practices March 4, which will continue until April 10.

Hernandez earns conference honors

Sophomore swimmer Sarah Hernandez earned Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors for her efforts at the Duke Kahanamoku Sprint Meet in Honolulu last weekend.

At the meet, she had top finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle while participating on the 200-yard medley and 500-yard freestyle relay teams. She currently has school records in the 50 free (23.27) and the 100 free (50.03), both of which are provisional qualifying times for the NCAA Championship.

Hernandez is the fifth Badger to earn conference honors this season; previously junior Carly Piper, senior Bethany Pendleton, sophomore Anna Trinidad and sophomore Amalia Sarnecki all earned Big Ten Swimmer of the Week awards.
