Badgers shoot 24 percent, fall 60-39 to Indiana

Score by half

Wisconsin set a school-record for the fewest number of field goals in one game in a 60-39 loss at Indiana (8-5 overall, 1-1 Big Ten) Thursday.

The Badgers (5-6, 0-2) struggled all night, making only 4 of 24 (16.7 percent) first-half shots and finishing the game 11-for-46, or 23.9 percent. The Badgers' 13 points at the half tied a Big Ten record for fewest points in a half and the team also set season lows in field goals made and attempted and percentage. Wisconsin also committed 18 turnovers and Indiana held a 24-11 advantage in points from turnovers. The Badgers made 15 of 24 free throws, about the only thing approaching a bright spot.

"A very poor first half set the stage," Wisconsin coach Lisa Stone said. "It was both offensive and defensive (that were poor). We couldn't get things going…We went to a zone to start the second half and they still found shooters. The Bennett defense was outstanding, very physical out there and we didn't handle the physical play well enough. We shot the ball poorly and I credit their defense."

Badger senior center Lello Gebisa had 11 points and 10 rebounds while junior guard Stephanie Rich had 11 points.

Indiana junior guard/forward Jenny DeMuth also had a double-double, with 20 points and 12 rebounds while teammate sophomore guard Cyndi Valentin had a game-leading 22 points.

"We just didn't handle their pressure well at all," Stone said. "They brought that physical displacement defense at us the whole game. Because Indiana was successful at it, their teeth got sharper. (We were) a little impatient offensively. We had difficultly getting into any flow at all."
