Wisconsin's trip to Iowa City will be a homecoming of sorts for some prominent Badgers, including head coach Lisa Stone and junior point guard Stephanie Rich.

Stone played point guard for Iowa from 1980-'84, captaining the Hawkeyes three years and earning two team MVP awards. Entering this season, she ranked sixth in Iowa history in steals (177), seventh in assists (322) and 14th in points (1,129).

Rich, meanwhile, is a Crawfordsville, Iowa native, and played prep basketball at Washington High School (Washington, Iowa), just 35 miles from Iowa City. Rich is the third-leading scorer (2,205 points) in Iowa prep history.

"It is always nice to go back home and notice who came up from Washington or Crawfordsville or old AAU teammates that you'll see," Rich said following the Badgers' win over Indian-Purdue-Fort Wayne Friday. "And just playing against (Iowa forward) Jennie Lillis, who is a good friend of mine; I played with (Iowa center) Jamie Cavey. Just to go back home and be in a familiar atmosphere is just going to be really exciting. We are going to go home to my house and have dinner and most of the girls seem real excited about that."

The familiarity does not end there, though. Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder preceded Stone as Drake's head coach. While there she recruited current Wisconsin assistant coach Stephanie Schmitz, who starred at Drake and served as a student assistant under Stone last season.

Another UW assistant, Donna Freitag, also coached under Stone at Drake and played alongside Stone at Iowa from 1982-'83.

  • Wisconsin will conclude a stretch of four games in eight days Sunday. The Badgers lost to Penn State 60-59 last Sunday, before notching wins over Illinois (66-57) and IPFW (75-59) this week.
  • Wisconsin's seven wins this season match its total from all of last year (7-21).
  • The Badgers are 7-0 when leading at the half, 0-7 otherwise.
