UW goalie named Defensive Player of the Week; rankings roundup

Junior goaltender Bernd Bruckler earned his third Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week award this season after collecting 66 saves against Colorado College last weekend.

Bruckler gave up just one even-strength goal during the road trip, saving the puck 93 percent of the time in the two games. Bruckler had 35 saves Friday in Wisconsin's 4-2 win and 31 in Saturday's 3-1 loss.

Bruckler is 12-5-6 overall and has a 2.30 goals-against average. He is a Philadelphia Flyers draft pick.

In the polls…

The men's basketball team jumped up to No. 17 from No. 21 in the Associated Press poll after home wins over Michigan and Illinois. In the ESPN/USA Today poll, the team moved up to 13th from 19th. Purdue, ranked No. 21 in both polls, is the only other Big Ten team in the either Top 25. 

The men's hockey team sits at No. 7 in both the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Top 15 Hockey Poll and U.S. College Hockey Online's poll while the women's team is currently No. 4 in both polls. The Badger are No. 12 in the latest PairWise rankings, while the women are No. 5.

Women's basketball time change

Wisconsin's home game against Minnesota Sunday has been changed to a 3:30 p.m. CST tip-off and will be televised live by Fox Sports Net North.
