N.Y. running back lists UW among offers

Badgers in the mix for Gwaltney

North Babylon (Long Island, NY) football coach Terry Manning believes he has proof that his running back Jason Gwaltney will be the best football player on Long Island and maybe in New York State next season.

"West Virginia, Penn State, Syracuse, Boston College, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Pittsburgh have offered," he said. "USC and Michigan are also showing strong interest."

Manning went on to say that Penn State, West Virginia, and Syracuse are recruiting him the hardest right now.

"I just received a handwritten letter from (Syracuse coach Paul) Pasqualoni the other day about Jason," Manning said.

Manning also says Gwaltney wants to go to a school that shows a strong commitment to running the ball. Gwaltney attended the Penn State camp last summer and will probably attend one camp this summer.

Gwaltney is a 6-foot-2, 229-pound running back that was first-team all-state and first-team All-Long Island in 2003.He was also named the 2003 Suffolk County Player of the Year. Gwaltney ran for 2,601 yards and 45 touchdowns (both Long Island records) in 2003. He has run for more than 5,000 yards and 90 touchdowns in his career and is on pace to break every Long Island rushing record.
