The No. 5 Badger women's hockey team dominated Niagara in every way Friday afternoon at the Kohl Center, allowing only seven shots on goal without letting one in the net in a 4-0 victory.
Freshman forward Lindsay Macy had a hat trick against the Purple Eagles (5-19-3 overall, 1-6-1 College Hockey America) as the Badgers (19-5-3, 14-5-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) outshot Niagara 46-7.
Freshman goalie Christine Dufour had her third shutout of the season while Niagara went through two goaltenders, freshman Allison Rutledge, who gave up all four UW goals, and senior Jennifer Mascaro.
Freshman Meaghan Mikkelson also tallied a goal for Wisconsin. Mikkelson, typically a forward, has played defense for the past three series. Freshman forward Sara Bauer had assists on two of Macy's goals.
Macy's first goal came just over three minutes into the game, as she beat Rutledge with help from Bauer. Almost exactly 13 minutes later, Macy picked up her second goal of the night with another assist from Bauer, this time on a Wisconsin power play.
Wisconsin continued to bombard Rutledge, who let two get by in the first four minutes of the second period. Junior forward Jackie Friesen took a shot at Rutledge but the puck bounced off her skate. Mikkelson responded and put a backhand shot into the net. Shortly after that goal, Macy picked up her third of the night to put Wisconsin up by four.
Niagara head coach Margot Page pulled Rutledge after Wisconsin's fourth goal, substituting her for Mascaro, who stopped all 24 shots she faced.
