Eastern Pa. athlete getting Big 10 interest

Central Bucks West coach Randy Cuthbert knows a thing or two about good football players. Cuthbert played a few years in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers after an excellent college career at Duke.

So when Cuthbert talks about his star QB/DB Joe McMonagle, you have to listen.

"He was our MVP for the last two years," he said. "He has good speed and can make people miss. And he is the toughest player on the team."

Joe McMonagle has 4.55 speed and has a solid frame at 6'0" and 195 pounds.

Both Cuthbert and McMonagle think McMonagle can play quarterback, safety, or even wide receiver in college, but Cuthbert sees the best spot for his star player at safety because of his reading skills and toughness, which were displayed when McMonagle played for a good part of the season with two severely sprained ankles.

McMonagle visited UConn unofficially and already and has also heard from Wisconsin. Iowa is a possible camp destination, according to McMonagle, as is Boston College.

Despite some recruiting sites that show McMonagle has an interest in Pitt, he says that he has only received one letter from them.

McMonagle currently has a 2.5 GPA and is currently studying hard for his SAT.
