Badgers 12th at Big Red Classic


The men's golf team finished 12th in the 15-team Big Red Classic in Ocala, Fla., Saturday and Sunday, with freshman Garrett Jones securing Wisconsin's top finish.


Jones tied for 16th place with a three-round score of 224 while the Badgers finished with a team score of 921. Junior Brian Brodell finished in a tie for 40th, the next highest finish for a Badger, with a final score of 231.


Methodist College won the team title with a score of 887, and boasted the top individual finisher, Adam Horton, who had a 213.


Softball competes at National Invitational Softball Tournament


The Wisconsin softball team lost three games but picked up two wins at the National Invitational Softball Tournament in Sunnyvale, Calif., extending its record to 13-8 overall. The Badgers fell to Syracuse 3-1 Friday but defeated the Orangewomen 3-2 in the rematch Sunday and took seventh place in the 12-team tournament. The Badgers also defeated San Jose State 8-1 Friday but lost to No. 8 Washington 11-0 and Purdue 1-0 Saturday.


In Friday's win over host San Jose State, Wisconsin freshman outfielder Sam Polito scored three runs and went 4-for-4. Junior shortstop Kris Zacher had three hits and three runs while bringing in four runners.


Against Washington, the Badgers had four errors throughout the game, which turned into seven unearned runs. Freshman pitcher Eden Brock gave up five hits and three earned runs, three unearned runs and one walk before sophomore pitcher Sara Gonzales gave Brock some relief. She allowed five hits and four unearned runs and one earned run before the game was called due to the eight-run rule.
