Chicago area tight end drawing interest

Wheaton, Ill. prospect Anthony Moeaki has already impressed a number of schools enough to receive official scholarship offers

Anthony Moeaki, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound tight end, had a good junior season. "I caught 23 passes for 405 yards and three touchdowns," Moeaki said. "My coach won't let me play defense."

Moeaki already has five scholarship offers and more are likely on the way. "I have offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Iowa and Iowa State so far," he said. "I'm getting mail from everyone in the Big Ten, Notre Dame, Nebraska, schools like that."

Moeaki has been receiving a lot of handwritten letters from the Irish. "Coach Mattison sends me a lot of handwritten letters," he said. "I'm very interested in Notre Dame. I wanted to go there for their junior day on April 3rd but I'm taking the ACT. I've been there before when I was little. I loved the place. It's a great atmosphere. I'll make it by there soon."

The Illinois native has already made a few junior days. "I've been to Purdue and Wisconsin," he said. "I plan on going to the Nike camp in Iowa. I also might head out to the west coast—Oregon or Washington to check that out. I don't plan on deciding early. I plan to take all my visits."

What will Moeaki be looking for in a school? "The academics will be important," he said. "The team chemistry is also important. I'll also look at the coaching staff and how I get along with them."
