Men's track wins three events, McGaffigan earns athlete of the week honor

Badgers take three at Cal State invite


The men's track team took home three individual titles at the Cal State Los Angeles Twilight meet Thursday in Los Angeles, Calif.


Freshman Demi Omole took the 100-meter dash in 10.70 seconds and came in second in the 200 meters in 21.40. Sophomore Paul Check took down the competition in the 110 high hurdles, finishing in 14.50, while senior Jon Mungen clocked in just behind him at 14.51. Check also took fifth in the 100.


Former Badger Jabari Pride won the 400 in 47.94 and Wisconsin junior Scott Hogseth came in second. Hogseth was one of four Badger runners to place in the top six in the event.


In the field events, freshman Joe Thomas took third in the shot put with a top throw of 55 feet, 10 inches. Pole vaulters sophomore Wes Ulfig and redshirt freshman Matt Novak tied for third with high jumps of 15-0.


McGaffigan Big Ten Player of Week


Junior Katie McGaffigan earned Big Ten women's tennis Athlete of the Week honors this week after winning all of her singles and doubles matches last weekend.


No. 85 McGaffigan led the Badgers to wins over No. 32 Iowa and Minnesota, defeating Minnesota No. 64 Angela Buergis and Iowa No. 94 Meg Racette. She and doubles pair junior Lindsay Martin easily crushed both of their opponents over the weekend.


The Badgers face Penn State and Ohio State in their final home matches of the season.
