Traveling Team: Fox Valley Skillz

The Fox Valley Skillz will win this spring and summer because of chemistry and unselfishness. Sometimes that goes a lot further than having a high-major guy. That's what Ritchie Davis is hoping for this year.

There may not be a Brian Butch or a Greg Stiemsma on this year's squad, but Ritchie Davis isn't all that worried.

This group of Fox Valley Skillz rising seniors plays well together and the organization has a handful of underclassman who have the potential to be big-time players.

``This is a very tough group and they are probably the smartest team we've had in three or four years," Davis said. "They can shoot the ball from the perimeter and that will allow us to be more diverse offensively."

Sophomore guard Trevon Hughes has the most potential, along with fellow sophs J.P. Gavinski and Anthony Green, of anyone in the program – but the young trio may be brought along slowly and play with the younger team most of the time.

Junior Cordero Barkley, a 6-foot-5, 180-pound wing with a long wing span, could be the team's top player this year. He's getting interest from UW-Green Bay, Northern Iowa and Dayton, but that could change after the summer.

``He does a little bit of everything," Davis said. "He rebounds well, is athletic and handles the ball well. He'll play four positions for us because he's so versatile."

Barkley will likely be joined in the starting lineup by 5-8 junior floor leader Jordan "Spud" Schade, 6-4 wing Kael Coleman and forwards Craig Coenen and Brian Behnke.

``This is a welcome thing for one year not to have a superstar," added Davis. "These guys are just so cohesive. They play so well together and always make the extra pass. I think we'll be fine."
