Junior Matt Tegenkamp earned Big Ten men's outdoor track co-athlete of the week for his record-breaking performance at the Mt. SAC Relays April 17.
Tegenkamp set a new school record in the 5,000 meters with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13:30.9, breaking the old record of 13:37.2 set by John Easker in 1985. Tegenkamp took 10th overall and third among college students in the event. Nike's Jonathon Riley won the event and Arizona sophomore Robert Cheseret took second overall and was the first collegian to finish.
In addition to his record in the 5,000 meters, Tegenkamp has set school records in two indoor events: the 3,000 (7:55.14) and the 5,000 (13:44.06).
Tegenkamp shares this week's honor with Indiana sophomore Sean Jefferson.
