The No. 50 women's tennis team is officially headed to the NCAA Tournament, where it will meet No. 24 Tennessee (13-13 overall) in the first round Friday, May 14 at 4 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C. The selections for the 64-team field were made Wednesday.

Big Ten foes Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, Ohio State, Michigan and Indiana will also grace the tournament.

Wisconsin (13-11) and Tennessee met earlier this season at the USTA/ITA Women's National Team Indoor Championship in Madison Feb. 5-7. The Volunteers won that matchup 4-2. Wisconsin junior Katie McGaffigan, though, executed her largest upset of the season during the match, defeating then-No. 13 Tammy Encina 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. In the USTA/ITA event, Wisconsin also faced North Carolina, the Badgers' hosts for the first round of NCAA Tournament.

McGaffigan, currently the No. 73 singles player in the nation, made the all-Big Ten roster, also announced Wednesday, as a unanimous pick. She was the only Badger selected, though not the only McGaffigan chosen. Sister Jennifer McGaffigan, a senior at Illinois, was also on the list of 12 players and was a four-time honoree. Katie McGaffigan played at the top spot in both singles, where she posted a 22-15 overall record, and doubles, where she paired with junior Lindsay Martin. The duo is currently ranked No. 42 in the nation.
