Iowa linebacker likes Midwest schools

Pat Angerer holds one Big 12 offer, but considers many Big Ten teams among his favorites

Bettendorf, Iowa linebacker Pat Angerer continues to favor Iowa State, but the Cyclones hold a very slim lead.

"They're still number one," Angerer said. "I just feel comfortable there, plus they are still my only offer.

"But I'd say there's only about a one in five chance I'll go there. I'd still like to get offers from Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa and Indiana, my other favorites.

"I call (Iowa State head coach Dan McCarney) about once a month. I like him because he's so straightforward and easy to talk to, easy to get along with. Compared to Iowa, the Iowa State coaches pay me a lot more attention. It's really all about the coaches. That would be the main difference between the in-state schools.

"A Penn State coach came to my school today (Wednesday). He was their linebacker coach I think. He said he liked the way I played and he'd like me to be the first one from Iowa to be on their team.

"I don't know much about (Joe) Paterno, but he's made a great legacy. I'd definitely prefer that he stay as their head coach, but I'd still like them if he wasn't there."
