Big Ten schools are in pursuit of star Canadian forward

Loyola Catholic's (Mississauga, Ontario) Ryan Wright is a 6-foot-9 220-pound forward whose athletic play around the rim has drawn the interest of numerous universities stateside. Some north of the border contend that he will provide stiff competition for Jevohn Shepherd in the battle for the mythical title of the best player in Canada next year.

What schools are you in contact with?

“I’ve talked to Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Pittsburgh.”

Have you gotten any scholarship offers?

“Yeah. Pretty much all of the schools are offering me a scholarship. I just have to figure our where I'm going to go now.”

How many years of high school do you have left?

“I'm eligible for two more years of high school basketball, but I might be gone after next year.”

Who would you compare your game to?

“Probably Kevin Garnett because I play outside and inside. I can grab boards and block shots.”

Have you gone on any visits?

“I went on one unofficial visit to Pittsburgh.”

Do you have a favorite school? If not, do you have a top five?

“I don't know. I'm still putting my list together. I like all the schools that play in big conferences.”

What are some of the factors in your decision?

“After I take my visits, if I feel comfortable on the campus. After I meet the players and coaches, I have to feel comfortable in that situation. All of that will affect my decision.”

When will you make your decision?

“After the summer. I'll probably be signing early next year.”
