Schabert will transfer to Eastern Illinois

By transferring to a lower level, quarterback can play out senior season this fall

Wisconsin's most experienced signal-caller has decided to transfer, according to a newspaper report.

The Mattoon Journal Gazette is reporting in its Wednesday edition that Matt Schabert will attend Eastern Illinois this fall, a Division I-AA program. Schabert's transfer to a lower NCAA competition level will enable him to play this year.

Sources had previously indicated that Schabert, who is expected to graduate this summer, would skip his senior season at Wisconsin and instead serve as a student assistant.

Schabert completed 33 of 65 passes for 441 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions as Jim Sorgi's backup last season before losing the No. 2 quarterback job to then-redshirt-freshman John Stocco late in the season.
