Anaheim selects UW recruit in NHL Draft

Sun Prairie native Kyle Klubertanz a third-round pick

Wisconsin incoming freshman Kyle Klubertanz was selected in the third round of the NHL Entry Draft Saturday, taken No. 74 overall by Anaheim.

A 6-foot 178-pound defenseman and Sun Prairie, Wis., native, Klubertanz spent the last two seasons with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League. He tallied six goals and 21 assists last year and eight goals and 26 assists in 2002-03.

Klubertanz was the only current or future Badger selected Saturday but he should have company when the draft concludes Sunday, with rounds four through nine. Three Wisconsin sophomores were rated in the NHL Central Scouting Services final North American skater rankings: wing Robbie Earl (No. 59), center Jake Dowell (No. 62) and defenseman Jeff Likens (No. 202). In addition to Klubertanz (No. 98), incoming freshman wing Matt Auffrey was ranked No. 152.
