Current, former Badger golfers enjoy weekend play

Katie Connelly places third in Futures Tour event; four UW golfers compete at Ray Fischer Amateur

Former University of Wisconsin golfer Katie Connelly, a Beloit, Wis., native, shot a three-under par 68 in the final round of the GMAC Futures Golf Classic in Avon, Conn., Sunday, propelling her to a third place finish in the event. Connelly recorded a two under 211 over the course of the three-round event and earned $5,156 for her efforts.

Current, former Badgers compete at Ray Fischer

Wisconsin senior-to-be Brian Brodell led a quartet of current Badgers at the Ray Fischer Amateur Golf Championship at Janesville's Riverside Golf Club Sunday. Brodell shot a 14-under-par 274 in the 72-hole, three-day competition, including an opening-round 66, for a fifth-place finish.

Senior Kevin Tassistro shot a 278 for ninth, sophomore Garrett Jones, the Badgers top scorer last spring, finished 16th (282) and senior Ryan Conn placed 38th with a one-over par 289.

Bob Gregorski, who lettered at Wisconsin in 1983 and 1984, tied for third with a 273.

Xavier's Neal Grusczynski bested UW-Eau Claire's Derek Pirkl in playoff to win the championship after each carded a 272.
