Wisconsin senior defensive tackle Anttaj Hawthorne was named to the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Football Writers Association of America announced Monday. The award is given to the best defensive player in college football, regardless of position.
Hawthorne, who is also on the watch list for the Outland Trophy, is one of the Badger captains for this season. He has played in 38 career games and started the last 29 in a row.
The winner of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, presented by the FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club, will be named on Dec. 6 at a banquet in Charlotte, N.C.
