Jason Forcier said he was pleased with his performance at the recent Notre Dame camp. "I thought it went real well," he said. "I don't think it was my best camp. I had already been at four camps so I was a little tired. My footwork was great, but my arm was a little tired. I think I left a good impression though."
Forcier also came away impressed with the Irish coaching staff. "I like their staff a lot," he said. "I get along with them very well. I think it's a real good fit and a good opportunity there."
The San Diego native also confirmed the quarterback situation to Irish Eyes. "It's down to Evan (Sharpley), (Rob) Schoenhoft and I," Forcier said. "I'll just have to wait and see what happens."
The last few weeks have been very busy for Forcier. "I also camped at Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State," he said. "Illinois offered me. Michigan State and Ohio State said they were waiting to see what Schoenhoft did before offering me. Michigan basically said the same thing.
"I'm just going to wait a few weeks and see what happens. I know that once a big school offers, a lot of other offers come," Forcier said. "If Notre Dame offered, they'd be right at the top. I hope to make my decision in a couple of weeks. We'll see what happens."
We asked Forcier what they did at camp. "We did a lot of drills," he said. "They had someting very cool called the 'quarterback challenge.' That was a lot of fun. I finished third out of 20 guys. I did beat both Evan and Schoenhoft in that though."
Right now, Forcier has a host of schools to choose from. "I think it's eight now," said Forcier of his offers. "Illinois, Ball state, Wisconsin, Utah, Utep, Wyoming, UCLA and Colorado have offered me. I'm hoping to get more soon."
We also asked Forcier to compare the three quarterbacks. "Well, I don't have as strong of arm as those other two, but I was tired," he said. "Rob is taller. I think I move better than they do, and I think I was more accurate. Who knows, that's for the coaches to decide."
Forcier says he is fine with waiting for the Irish to decide on what they want to do. "I think Notre Dame is being smart. They place a lot of emphasis on getting to know you. They want a guy who can be a real leader, and it's not all about the physical tools. I'm a pretty confident guy, and a confident leader. I'm sure the others are too. I do think they are being smart because so much of playing this position comes from being a leader, being smart and making quick decisions."
Does Forcier have a list of leaders at this point? "Yeah, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Illinois, and then the local schools--USC and UCLA," he said. "I don't mind leaving home. That won't be an issue."
Comments: The Irish appear to be in good shape if Forcier is their top choice. I'm going to guess he'd jump on an Irish offer shortly after receiving it.
