Liebhold qualifies for finals at Olympic Trials

Tim Liebhold, a senior on the men's swim team, will learn his Olympic fate Monday, as he qualified for the finals in the 200 individual medley Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Long Beach, Calif.

Liebhold finished 10th in the preliminary round Sunday morning, clocking in at 2:04.44, and swam to an eighth-place finish in the semifinals later in the day, with a time of 2:03.59. Liebhold swam the 400 IM and 100 backstroke last week at the trials but did not advance past the preliminaries in either event. Senior Adam Mania, also scheduled to compete in the 200 IM, did not appear in the race.

Dale Rogers finished 13th in the semifinals of the 100-meter freestyle in a time of 50.26. The time did not qualify the former Badger for the finals.

Junior Amalia Sarnecki ended her Olympic run in the 200-meter breaststroke after she finished 16th in the semifinals in 2:35.09. She qualified for the semifinals by placing 13th in the preliminaries in 2:33.54.

Pollard named CABMA president

Deputy Athletic Director Jamie Pollard added a new role to his duties as he will become the president of the Collegiate Athletic Business Managers Association for 2004-05. He was the organization's vice president last year.

Pollard's association with CABMA does not begin there, however, as CABMA named him the 2002 Business Manager of the Year, while he was at Madison. He joined the athletic department staff in 1998 and previously had stints as associate athletic directors at both Maryland and St. Louis.

CABMA is devoted to the establishment, maintenance and implementation of the highest standards of integrity and efficiency in the scope, policies and procedures involved in the management and administration of business in the athletics departments and associations of colleges and universities. CABMA serves colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as companies and organizations whose functions and activities are related to college athletics.
