Nickerson schedules unofficial visit to Notre Dame

Irving, Texas defensive back Brent Nickerson has had a busy summer so far. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Nickerson has already visited two schools this summer and Notre Dame is on the schedule for his next visit.

Brent Nickerson says he's had a busy summer so far. "I've been to Tulsa camp," Nickerson said. "I also went for an unofficial visit to Oklahoma State. I liked the area there and I thought it was a good atmosphere at Oklahoma State."

Nickerson already has a host of suitors. "I think I have 15 offers," Nickerson said. "I'm not sure I can remember them all. Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Tulsa, Wisconsin, Kansas, Kansas State, Duke, Houston, Arkansas State and UCLA are some of them."

The Irish have been recruiting Nickerson very hard so far. "I'm really impressed with Notre Dame," Nickerson said. "They have excellent academics there and they were the first team to offer me.

"I've spoken to both (defensive line coach Greg Mattison) and (head coach Tyrone Willingham) and I really like both. I'm excited about visiting there later this month."

Nickerson says he'll be in South Bend soon. "We're are going there on July 24th and 25th," Nickerson said. "I'm excited to see Notre Dame."

A decision could come shortly after his visit according to Nickerson. "I plan to make a decision before my season," he said. "I"ll think about it after my Notre Dame visit. I'd like to make an early decision."

We asked Nickerson what he's looking for in a school. "The graduation rate will be very important," Nickerson said. "I have to get a good education. I also want to go to a school where they have a chance to win a championship."

Comments: The Irish appear to be in good shape with Nickerson. He seems very interested with Notre Dame and we would not be surprised if he decided shortly after his visit. Oklahoma State was another team he seems impressed with. We'll check back with Nickerson after his visit to South Bend.
