Omole makes finals at World Junior Championships Sophomore Demi Omole demonstrated his speed on the world stage Tuesday at the World Junior Championships in Grosseto, Italy. The UW sprinter won his heat in the preliminaries and placed a close second in the semifinals to advance to the finals in the 100-meter dash.
Omole won his preliminary heat in 10.45 seconds before knocking more than two tenths of a second off his time later in the day. He and Antigua's Daniel Bailey both finished in 10.19 seconds in the semifinals but Bailey was given the first-place finish. The finals will be held Wednesday.
Omole will participate in the 400 relay Saturday and Sunday. He recently won the 100 meters at the USA Junior Championships in a wind-aided 10.14 and claimed the Big Ten Outdoor Championship in the same event in May.
