Hoopman brings home gold

Penney puts up 28 points in two games

Former University of Wisconsin men's rower Beau Hoopman, who already helped Team USA break a world record in the men's eight race in the preliminaries, added a gold medal to his list of accomplishments.

Sunday, Hoopman and Team USA's eight boat rowed to a first-place finish, clocking in at 5:42.48 on the 2,000-meter course, well below the world-record time of 5:19.85, which the team set Aug. 15.

The Netherlands placed second in 5:43.75 and Australia finished third in 5:45.38, rounding out the medalists.
