Senior tailback Anthony Davis will miss at least three games after injuring his eye during Wisconsin's 34-6 win over UCF Saturday, head coach Barry Alvarez said Wednesday.
Davis will be re-evaluated in approximately three weeks to determine when he will return to the field. He has been seeing University of Wisconsin ophthalmologists daily, according to a release. Alvarez said during a press conference Monday that Davis had experienced some blurred vision when he looked down but that it was improving.
Davis initially injured his eye when he landed awkwardly out of bounds at the end of a 21-yard run late in the second quarter. According to Alvarez, Davis' helmet slipped when he landed on the ground, causing the injury to the eye. He was able to jog slowly off the field but he missed the remainder of the game. Davis contributed 78 yards on 13 attempts and an eight-yard touchdown, as well as a 12-yard completion from sophomore quarterback John Stocco.
Sophomore tailback Booker Stanley replaced Davis on the field after the injury and had 12 carries for 47 yards against UCF. In mop-up time, true freshman Chris Pressley took the field and had 22 yards on eight carries but fumbled twice.
At the very least, Davis will miss Wisconsin's games against UNLV, Arizona and Penn State. He could return in time for the Badgers' homestand against Illinois, Wisconsin's fifth game of the season.
