Badgers pick up first conference win
After a four-game winless drought, the women's soccer team (7-3-1 overall, 1-3-1 Big Ten) won its first Big Ten game, defeating Purdue 1-0 in West Lafayette Friday afternoon.
Junior midfielder/forward Katy Lindenmuth scored the game-winner at 9:12 in the game, her fourth goal of the season.
Wisconsin freshman goaltender Lynn Murray collected six saves while Purdue netminders Lauren Mason and Maureen Carey had three and one save, respectively. Purdue outshot Wisconsin 12-8 but could not get a goal.
"We needed to win this game to have a chance to finish in the upper half of the conference," head coach Dean Duerst said. "There are still plenty of Big Ten games left, but this was basically a must-win for us because of our slow start (in league play). Now we need to build on this victory."
