Just as he was pulling ahead in his right-tackle competition with fellow-senior Morgan Davis, Mike Lorenz was pushed to the sidelines with an injury. While Wisconsin was pulling out a 24-7 win over Illinois Saturday, Lorenz was on crutches and wearing a walking boot on his left foot.
"I'm not going to give you a health report right now," Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez said following the game Saturday. "He has an injured foot."
Asked if he knew how long Lorenz would be out of action for, Alvarez replied: "That's all I'll say."
With Lorenz out of action, Davis took every snap with the first offense until mop-up time late in the fourth quarter.
Starks leaves game in fourth quarter
Scott Starks enjoyed another strong performance, tallying eight total tackles and a game-high seven solo stops. He also broke up a pass that was earmarked for the end zone. Starks, however, left Saturday's game with about two minutes left.
"Starks hurt his shoulder when he jammed a guy," Alvarez said.
In additional injury news:
Booker Stanley (turf toe) suited up for Saturday's game and took part in warm-ups but did not compete….Jamil Walker did not suit up due a shoulder injury…..True freshman cornerback Allen Langford suited up but was wearing a cast on his wrist and lower arm and did not play…Jammar Crane again did not suit up.
