Wisconsin still in the mix for Turkovich

Badgers are battling with three major programs for three-star lineman

When North Carolina State hosted OL Michael Turkovich earlier this year at their football camp, the senior offensive tackle left little doubt that he would become a prime target for the Pack coaching staff throughout the rest of the recruiting year.

Turkovich reportedly performed extremely well and it did not take long for word to reach several other schools. LSU soon found out about Turkovich's ability and they promptly invited him to their football camp. The Tigers followed that trip with a scholarship offer. Although Turkovich's recruiting seemed to be on the fast-track at the time, he has spent the weeks since, mulling his options and settled on a fairly solid top four.

"Right now I really like LSU, NC State, Wisconsin and Boston College," Turkovich said.

So far, Turkovich has played a large role in leading his Valley Forge Military Academy squad to a 3-1 record. However, he got a chance to get away from the military style setting to take in a college game a little over a week ago. It also gave him the opportunity to see one of his top schools in person.

"I went up to Boston College last week and liked it but right now, I don't really have anything to compare it to," he said. "I don't have any other visits set up."

As far as college favorites are concerned, Turkovich is keeping a poker face although he admits a decision could come in the not-so-distant future. The Pack would appear to be a team under serious consideration.

"Right now, everyone is pretty equal," Turkovich said. "I was leaning to NC State and LSU earlier but now, everyone is equal. But I've got a good relationship with coach [Wolfpack offensive line coach Mike Barry] and we talk every week. He knows the situation right now and that I want to see some schools before I make a decision. I think I'll probably make a decision in the next couple of weeks but I need to see some schools first."

With the Pack's next home game being two weeks out, it's safe to assume NC State will do their best to get Turkovich on campus for the Wolfpack's contest with Miami Oct. 23. If the Pack can pull that visit off, their chances to land the 6-foot-7, 275-pound tackle could get a major boost.

Turkovich projects as a full academic qualifier. He is rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com.
