The Wisconsin men's golf team shot a season-low, nine-under-par 855 at the Xavier Invitational Oct. 11-12 in Loveland, Ohio, tying St. Mary's (Calif.) for second place in the invitational. Indiana shot a 30-under 834 to win the invitational for the second consecutive year.

Sophomore Garrett Jones shot a 204 (70-65-69), the school's second-lowest total, including a three-under-par 69 Tuesday, taking third place behind winner Jeff Overton of Indiana, who shot a 192. Wisconsin freshman Jeff Kaiser finished in ninth place with a 213 (74-70-69), tying his personal best. sophomore Adam DeLawyer finished in a tie for 31st with a 218 (75-71-72) while senior Brian Brodell tied for 41st with a 222 (73-75-74).

Badgers sweep Swimmer of the Week awards

Sophomore Susan Johnson, senior Eric Wiesner and junior diver Amanda Witte were named Big Ten Swimmers of the Week Tuesday. The awards come after the men's and women's swimming and diving team easily defeated UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay last Friday.

Johnson and Wiesner each won three events Friday and Witte swept the diving competition. Johnson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year last season. She won the 50-yard freestyle (24.05), the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.55) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:34.34). Wiesner earned three of the men's nine first-place finishes, winning the 50-yard freestyle (20.94), the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.02) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:33.45). Witte won the 1-meter (218.40) and 3-meter (231.70) diving events with

"Winning these awards really starts the season off on a positive note," head coach Eric Hansen said. "All three have put themselves in a position to be major contributors this year. Their success is a direct result of their preparation over the summer."
