UW women sweep state with win

The Wisconsin women's soccer team defeated Marquette 1-0 Wednesday in Milwaukee, sweeping the in-state series, with previous wins over UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay.

Sophomore Allison Preiss netted the game-winner for the Badgers, sinking her team-high fourth game-winning goal of the season early in the second half. The Badgers are 14-4-1 overall while the Golden Eagles are 10-7-1.

Wisconsin out-shot Marquette 10-4. The Badgers will face Northern Illinois in their regular-season finale Saturday at 1 p.m. at the McClimon Track and Soccer Complex.

Badgers bully Phoenix 4-1

The Wisconsin men's soccer team (7-8 overall) defeated UW-Green Bay (5-9-2) 4-1 Wednesday evening on the road.

Senior forward Nick Van Sicklen led the Badgers with two goals and an assist, while freshman B.J. Goodman and sophomore Reid Johnson added Wisconsin's other goals. Johnson also had an assist on Van Sicklen's second goal, which came late in the second half.

UW-GB's Glenn Herzog scored the Phoenix's only goal six minutes into the game.

Both teams suffered from foul woes, combining for 50 fouls.

The Badgers will next face Michigan State, Sunday in East Lansing.
