Men's hoops tickets to go to lottery winners

Students choose option of 2,100 season tickets

The UW-Madison Athletic Department announced Thursday that men's basketball tickets for the 2004-05 season will be distributed via a lottery system, in which 2,100 students will be able to purchase season tickets.

This option was one of two presented to student ticket applicants, who voted on the options from Tuesday through Thursday. The final vote showed that of the 3,082 students polled, 52.63 percent (1,622 of those polled) favored this option over the alternative, in which the athletic department would sell 1,500 student season tickets to lottery winners. The remaining student section tickets would be distributed among 2,250 complimentary four-game packages.

The lottery to select the 2,100 recipients will be held Friday and a list of winners will be posted at Gate A of the Kohl Center, Monday at 9 a.m. The list will also be online at and will be e-mailed to all of the student applicants. The tickets will be distributed Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. outside Gate B of the Kohl Center.

The poll of students came about after the athletic department discovered a flaw in its ticket distribution system when electronic application submissions for 625 students were not processed. The athletic department responded to the error by holding a town hall-style meeting Monday, allowing students to voice their concerns and provide solutions. The athletic department came up with the two options and students who had submitted electronic ticket applications could select one.
