Swimming takes first loss of season

Badger men's and women's teams fall to Arizona on road

The Wisconsin men's and women's swimming and diving team were defeated by Arizona Friday in Tucson, each taking their first loss of the season.

Arizona knocked off the Wisconsin men's team (3-1) 160-99. The Badgers had help from senior Adam Mania, who won the 100-yard backstroke in 48.69, placed second in the 200 back in 2:05.68 and second in the 100 butterfly in 50.47. He was also on the first-place 400 freestyle relay team, along with senior Tim Liebhold, senior Eric Weisner and sophomore Scott Speer.

Freshman Nick Bennett won the 200 butterfly in 1:54.55 while Tim Liebhold finished first in the 400 IM in 4:02.66.

In diving, Justin Bonner placed third on both the 1- and 3-meter boards.

The No. 10 women's team (3-1) also fell to Arizona by a score of 141-119. Junior Anna Trinidad won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.93, as well as the 400 IM in 4:20.57. Sophomore Susan Johnson won the 200 back in 2:01.09. The Badgers also picked up wins from junior Rebecca Johansson in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:54.77), sophomore Sierra Lewis in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.47), junior Amalia Sarnecki in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.47), and senior Carly Piper in 500-yard freestyle (5:00.65).

Junior diver Cassie Kubly finished sixth on the 1-meter board and fourth on the 3-meter board.
