Badger soccer defeats MSU 2-1

Senior forward Nick Van Sicklen netted two Wisconsin goals in the Badgers' 2-1 win over Michigan State in East Lansing Sunday. The Badgers are now 8-8-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the conference while the Spartans are 8-6-1 and 2-4-0.

"We played very competitively," UW coach Jeff Rohrman said. "I think the first half is as complete a half as we have played to this point. In the second, we came out a little flat and kind of let MSU dictate the flow and the rhythm of the game. We gave up the goal and I think the resolve the boys showed was a real credit to them."

Van Sicklen, with his game-winning goal at 79:51, pushes him past former standout Dominic DaPra on the career points list. He currently has 73 points, fifth in school history. Senior goalkeeper Eric Hanson and MSU goalie Jason Tillman each finished with four saves.

Women's crew competes at Head of the Elk

The Wisconsin women's openweight and lightweight rowing teams competed at the Head of the Elk in Elkhart, Ind., Sunday, with the openweights winning five of eight races. The lightweights, though, struggled and won only one event—Claire Wallace won the singles race in 20:02.10. The lightweights placed third in three events and earned a ninth- and 10th-place finish in two other events.

Men's crew successful at Head of the Iowa

The Wisconsin men's crew team won four of its six events at the Head of the Iowa in Iowa City Sunday, despite mediocre weather conditions. The freshman four boat won its event, while the varsity boats took home wins in the open four, open eight and lightweight events.
