Big-time offer shakes up favorites

Division I interest is starting to translate into impressive scholarship offers for OT Matt Pipho

Matt Pipho has four scholarship offers and two favorites.

"Right now it is probably between Stanford and Miami," Pipho said.

Pipho sent the Hurricanes a highlight tape after his third game this season. Last week they came through with a scholarship offer.

The 6-foot-7, 260-pound offensive tackle prospect also has scholarship offers from Oregon and Iowa State. He said the Ducks are third on his list and he is still considering the Cyclones, along with Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Pipho took an unofficial visit to Wisconsin for the Badgers' Oct. 2 game against Illinois.

"I liked it. I liked the game atmosphere, it was pretty nice," he said.

UW did not offer a scholarship, however.

"They just said that they weren't ready to offer one right now," Pipho said.

Union (La Porte City, Iowa) lost Friday to finish its season 6-3, one game shy of the playoffs. An audibly disappointed Pipho took some positives to heart from the campaign.

"I was happy with how we did," he said. "We made our goal. Our goal was to have a winning season.

"I was happy with how I did. I thought I improved a lot since last year."
