Stocco receives Big Ten honor

UW quarterback awarded for prolific performance in win over Minnesota Saturday

University of Wisconsin quarterback John Stocco was named Big Ten offensive player of the week Monday.

Stocco led the Badger offense to touchdowns on its first four possessions and scores on its first five as UW built a 31-0 lead on its way a 38-14 win over Minnesota Saturday.

Stocco accounted for three touchdowns while completing 73 percent of his passes as the Badgers improved to 9-0. The Richfield, Minn., native connected on 19 of 26 passes for a career-high 297 yards and a touchdown while adding a pair of rushing scores. His 241 passing yards in the first half surpassed his previous single-game career-best of 211.

In his first season as a starter the sophomore signal-caller has completed 119 of 218 passes for 1,506 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. He also has been credited with 34 rushing attempts for nine yards and four touchdowns.
