Leonhard, Thomas earn Academic All-District

Badger football players now qualified for Academic All-America team

University of Wisconsin senior free safety Jim Leonhard and sophomore left tackle Joe Thomas have each earned first-team Academic All-District 5 honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Both are now eligible to be named to the Academic All-America teams, which will be announced Dec. 1.

A native of Tony, Wis., Leonhard carries a 3.44 grade point average in kinesiology. He has been named an Academic All-Big Ten selection each of the past two years and was a second-team Academic All-American last season. Leonhard recently was named as a recipient of a prestigious National Football Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship worth $18,000.

Thomas, a Brookfield, Wis., native, is majoring in business and has a 3.78 grade point average. He has started all nine games this season at left tackle for the Badgers and is a member of a solid offensive line that has allowed just nine sacks all year.
