Ko drops match at Big Ten Championship; MacLeod, Engstrom compete at Four Nations Cup

Ko falls out of main draw

Freshman men's tennis player Brian Ko fell to Malcolm Scatliffe of Penn State in the round of 16 at the Big Ten Men's Singles Championship Sunday, ending the Badgers' run in the main draw of the tournament, which Wisconsin is hosting at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Ko took Scatliffe to three sets but fell 6-2, 4-6 and 6-2. Sophomore Lachezar Kasarov, senior Alex Kasarov, freshman Elliott Bisnow, freshman Jeremy Sonkin and Felipe Bellido all competed in the main draw but lost their matches in the first round Saturday.

In the consolation round, Sonkin defeated Minnesota's Brian Lipinski 6-3- and 6-1 and then beat Penn State's Ryan Berger 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3. He will advance to the Monday's quarterfinals of the second round consolation bracket.

MacLeod helps Team Canada to Four Nations Cup victory

Senior women's hockey defenseman Carla MacLeod competed with Team Canada in the 2004 Four Nations Cup in Lake Placid, N.Y., over the weekend, where her team won a gold medal. Senior defenseman Molly Engstrom suited up for Team USA at the tournament, joining former Badger defenseman Kerry Weiland.

Team Canada defeated Team USA 2-1 in the gold medal round after the two teams tied 1-1 in a meeting Nov. 12.

MacLeod notched a power-play goal against Finland Nov. 13 while Engstrom had two assists in Team USA's 6-1 win over Finland. Team USA finished 2-1-1 while Team Canada had a record of 3-0-1.
