Men's basketball moves up in polls

Wisconsin slides up four pots in coaches poll after one game

After a 77-44 win over Penn Saturday, the Wisconsin men's basketball team jumped up four spots in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, from 21 to 17, although the Badgers moved up just one spot—from 21 to 20—in the Associated Press poll.

The 1-0 Badgers are currently tied with Arizona (2-1) at that spot. Illinois (2-0) is the top conference team ranked at No. 4 in the Coaches Poll, while Michigan State (1-0) is at No. 9. In the AP poll, Illinois is No. 5 and MSU is 10.

Volleyball still enjoying computer tally

The Wisconsin volleyball team did not crack the top 25 in the USA Today/CSTV Top 25 Coaches Poll but it did receive 28 poll points after defeating Michigan 3-0 and Michigan State 3-1 over the weekend.

The team is also the fourth-ranked team in the Mideast region in the rankings and No. 15 overall. The RichKern poll uses a formula similar to the NCAAs as an indicator of how teams may be placed heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Women's hockey still No. 5

Despite easily sweeping North Dakota over the weekend, the Wisconsin women's hockey team (9-3 overall) is still No. 5 in the nation, according to U.S. College Hockey Online. Western Collegiate Hockey Association foe Minnesota is the No. 1 team in the country.
