Men's basketball up one in polls

Badgers improved to 4-1 last week

The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team improved one spot in the polls Monday, moving to No. 24 in the latest Associated Press poll and No. 22 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll.

Wisconsin topped then-No. 12 Maryland 69-64 last week and won at Rutgers 70-62 Saturday. The Terrapins bounced back to beat George Mason but lost to George Washington, falling to No. 23/17.

Illinois (6-0) moved up to No. 1 in both polls after dismantling then-No. 1 Wake Forest last week and beating Arkansas. No. 17/24 Iowa (6-1) and No. 20/16 Michigan State (4-2) round out the Big Ten representation in the polls.

The Badgers (4-1) next host UW-Green Bay (4-1) Tuesday before traveling to Marquette (7-0) Saturday night.
