Pollack wins Bednarik award

Wisconsin's Erasmus James joins Georgia defensive end on All-American team

David Pollack, a senior defensive end at the University of Georgia, took home another major college football honor Thursday night, winning the Bednarik Award for college football's best defensive player.

"I was shocked," said Pollack, who won the Lombardi Award Wednesday. "It surprised me. It was very exciting. I don't think I deserved it. I'm just so thankful for all my teammates and my coaches. I'm very thankful not only for tonight but for the whole season."

Pollack won the honor over finalists Erasmus James and Derrick Johnson.

Pollack has 48 tackles, 9.5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for a loss this season. Already chosen to All-America teams by the AFCA, The Sporting News and SI.com, the SEC Defensive Player of the Year was also named to the Walter Camp Football Foundation All-American team Thursday, joining teammate safety Thomas Davis.

James, a senior defensive end at Wisconsin, also made the Walter Camp All-American squad Thursday, as did Texas senior linebacker Johnson, who earlier this week won the Nagurski Award for the nation's best defensive player.
