James leads the Big Ten in sacks with eight, despite being hampered by an ankle injury that forced him to miss 1 ½ games and play at significantly less than 100 percent in three more to close out the season.
After coming back from a hip injury that forced him to take a medical redshirt last season, James was the dominant presence in the Big Ten before suffering the ankle injury Oct. 16 at Purdue. He was still named Big Ten Defensive Player and Defensive Linemen of Year and was a finalist for the Nagurski, Bednarik, Lombardi and Hendricks awards.
James, who has 34 tackles and 11.5 tackles for loss this season, has also been honored as an All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation, the American Football Coaches Association and ESPN.com. He was a second-team All-American according to CNNSI.com.
