Badgers score 7-0 win in first game back from month-long winter break

The University of Wisconsin women's hockey team picked up a non-conference softball Friday night and hit it a mile, blasting host Quinnipiac 7-0.

It was the Badgers' first game since Dec. 11. Wisconsin (14-4-1 overall) is now riding a four-game unbeaten streak. Quinnipiac fell to 3-14-1.

The Badgers knocked the rust off early, with sophomore center Sara Bauer finding the net at 9:01 in the first period. Bauer then set up linemate junior Sharon Cole for a power play tally with 1:22 left in the first period.

Junior forward Cyndy Kenyon gave Wisconsin a 3-0 lead just 1:50 into the second period, her first of two goals Friday. Kenyon set up freshman forward Jinelle Zaugg's tally only 15 second later to give the Badgers a commanding 4-0 edge.

Sophomore netminder Christine Dufour made 12 saves for her fourth shutout of the year. It was a homecoming of sorts for Dufour, who called the Northford Ice Pavilion in Northford, Conn., home for the year she played for the Connecticut Polar Bears.

In the third period, senior forward Amy Vermeulen, sophomore forward Meaghan Mikkelson and Kenyon found the net for the Badgers.
