An easy sweep

Wisconsin too much for Quinnipiac

The No. 4 Wisconsin women's hockey team easily swept Quinnipiac with a 4-0 win Saturday, holding the Bobcats scoreless throughout the weekend.

Wisconsin (15-4-1 overall) scored all of its goals in the first period on sophomore goalie Janelle Wolitski. Quinnipiac (3-15-1) senior netminder Catherine Lapare limited Wisconsin's offense but it was too late for the Bobcats.

UW senior defenseman Molly Engstrom kicked off the scoring with a goal just over a minute into the first period and junior forward Nikki Burish quickly added two tallies of her own, giving the Badgers a 3-0 lead with just under four minutes remaining in the first.

Freshman defender Mikka Nordby added the Badgers' fourth goal at 18:59, firing a puck from the point that was deflected by a Quinnipiac defender but slipped into the net.

Wisconsin slammed 17 shots at Wolitski, who stopped 13, but Lapare was not as generous. She stopped all 26 of Wisconsin's shots over the second and third periods. For Wisconsin, junior netminder Meghan Horras collected 15 saves.

Wisconsin will return to Madison to face Minnesota-Duluth in a two-game conference matchup Jan. 14-15.
