Men's hockey sells out two more games; hockey poll roundup

Men's hockey up to four sellouts

The No. 3 Wisconsin men's hockey team has sold out two more home games, setting a school-record with four Kohl Center sellouts.

The Kohl Center, which seats 15,237 people for hockey, is sold out Feb. 5-6 for Wisconsin's series versus Minnesota and Feb. 19 when UW hosts No. 2 Colorado College. The Badgers had previously sold out a Jan. 15 contest against Alaska Anchorage. There are approximately 3,000 tickets left for the Feb. 18 contest against Colorado College.

Fans nominate nine Badgers for Hobey Baker

Fans showed their love for the Wisconsin men's hockey team by nominating nine athletes for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which goes to the best college hockey player in the nation. Senior netminder Bernd Bruckler, junior right winger Ryan MacMurchy, sophomore forward Robbie Earl and freshman center Joe Pavelski all advanced to the second round of fan voting.

Fans can visit and vote for their top three players once a day in the second phase. The voting ends March 6.

Other Badgers nominated in the first phase include junior forward Adam Burish, sophomore forward Ross Carlson, sophomore forward Jake Dowell, junior center Nick Licari and sophomore defenseman Jeff Likens.

In the polls…

The men's hockey team (19-6-1 overall) moved up two spots to No. 3 in the U.S. College Hockey Online poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll after it swept Notre Dame 2-0 both Friday and Saturday nights. The team is tied for 11th in the PairWise ranking, which is designed to mimic NCAA tournament selection criteria.

The Wisconsin women's team (18-5-1) remained at No. 4 in the poll after convincingly sweeping North Dakota over the weekend. The team is also No. 4 in the PairWise rankings and No. 4 in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll.

Three former Badgers invited to Senior Bowl

Guards Dan Buenning and Jonathan Clinkscale, and defensive tackle Anttaj Hawthorne are all on the roster for the 2005 Senior Bowl, played Jan. 29 in Mobile, Ala. The game combines allows some of the top college seniors in the country to work with the NFL coaching staffs who coach the game. The three former Badgers are on the North squad, which is coached by the Oakland Raiders.
