Junior Nathan Brown won the heptathlon with a personal-best 5,255 points and earned an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. He won the heptathlon shot put (46 feet) and the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles (8.40 seconds), while finishing second in the heptathlon long jump (21-9) and tying for second in the hepthalon pole vault (13-7 ¼). Teammates junior Ben Roland and redshirt freshman Peter Dykstra placed third and sixth, respectively.
Senior Jvontai Hanserd won the 400 meters in a season-best 48.82 seconds, while sophomore Dan Goesch placed seventh in 50.04.
The seventh-ranked Badgers sent only a partial team to Illinois.
Women's track wins two events
Juniors Tara Halls and Heidi Lane each won an event while junior Erica Schoeller earned an NCAA provisional qualifying mark at the UNI Invitational Friday and Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Halls won the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 16.68 seconds, with sophomore teammate Kendalyn Taylor hot on her trail. Taylor finished third in 2:18.24 and freshman Ann Detmer placed fourth in 2:18.45.
Lane beat out her opponents in the 3,000 meters by more than 15 seconds, finishing in 10:08.04. Sophomores Megan Thomas (10:41.60) and Sarah Konkel (10:46.59) placed fourth and fifth.
Schoeller earned 3,805 points in the pentathlon, good enough for an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. She won the pentathlon 800 meters in a personal best time of 2:16.30. She finished second in the long jump (19-6 ¼), tied for sixth in the high jump (5-2 ¼) and ninth in the shot put (30-4 ¾).
