The Wisconsin men's golf team tied for fourth at the Lexus/Jacobsen Invitational, held in Naples, Fla., Monday and Tuesday. The Badgers shot an 873 (290-288-295) and tied with Marquette with a nine-over-par finish. St. Mary's College won the event with an 845 (290-283-272), 19 under par.
Jeff Kaiser led the Badgers, finishing tied for seventh at three under par with a 213. He shot a 140 (67-73) on Monday, earning career lows for 18 and 36 holes. The freshman followed that up with a 73 on Tuesday, tying his career low for 54 holes.
Senior Brian Brodell tied for 20th with a 220 (73-69-78) and sophomore Garrett Jones tied for 24th with a 221 (76-72-73). Seniors Kevin Tassistro tied for 30th with a 224 (74-76-74) and Ryan Conn had a 225 (76-74-75), tying for 34th.
Jones was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week after he placed second at the St. Croix Collegiate Classic March 4-6. He shot a 212 (72-70-70), the second-lowest performance of his career. He is the first Badger to pick up Golfer of the Week honors since Joel Rechlicz in March of 2003.
Ten to compete at swimming NCAAs
Ten members of the Wisconsin women's swimming team, the most in school history, will compete at the NCAA Championships March 17-19 in West Lafayette, Ind. The Badgers, ranked No. 8 this year, finished 10th last year.
"Our goal is and always will be to be the best Big Ten School at the NCAA championships," head coach Eric Hansen said. "We fully expect for that to happen."
