Will Ryan named director of basketball operations; women's soccer announces recruits

Will Ryan named director of basketball operations

The University of Wisconsin men's basketball program formally announced the hiring of Will Ryan as director of basketball operations Wednesday. Ryan, son of Badger head coach Bo Ryan, spent the past two seasons as UW's video coordinator.

Will Ryan replaces Duffy Conroy, who spent one season as the Badgers' director of basketball operations before taking an assistant coaching position on Rob Jeter's staff at UW-Milwaukee.

Ryan also spent the past two seasons coaching AAU basketball, including a head coaching position with the Wisconsin Swing this spring.

A 2002 graduate of UW-Milwaukee, Will Ryan played on UW-Platteville's Division III national championship teams in 1998 and 1999 for Bo Ryan and also played at UW-Milwaukee in 2000 and 2001.

"I'm excited to take on this new opportunity," Will Ryan said in a prepared statement. "I think my familiarity with the program — the coaches, players and staff — will definitely help my transition. I've enjoyed my two years as video coordinator and look forward to the new challenges this job will bring."

Women's soccer announces recruits

The UW women's soccer team added three more athletes to its 2005 recruiting class, announcing the singing of Camille Aochi, a goalkeeper from Los Angeles, Mary Omundson, a defender from Evanston, Ill., and Kelly Delaney, a defender/midfielder from Spring, Texas.

The freshmen-to-be have noteworthy accomplishments. Aochi is a two-time Gatorade High School Player of the Year, Omundson has helped her high school squad win a regional state championship and Delaney played for two Olympic development programs.

Omundson also is the younger sister of current Badger Stacy Omundson.

"These recruits will add to the competitiveness of the team," head coach Dean Duerst said in a press release. "They all come from really good club backgrounds. I'm also happy to add another goalkeeper to the program, especially one that is so athletic."
