Running back Deon Williams
has four scholarship offers under his belt. The 6-foot, 200-pounder from Rockford (Ill.) Guilford started on both sides of the football as a junior and he is known just as much for his big hits on defense as he is for scoring touchdowns on offense. Williams tells Scout.com which side of the ball he'll be on at the next level.
"I like defense but I'm going to be a running back in college," Williams said.
"I've had a few schools tell me defense. Iowa is looking at me as a free safety and Purdue told me definitely running back for them.
"I have offers from Purdue, Illinois, Michigan State and Northern Illinois.
"My favorites are Iowa, Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Northern Illinois."
Williams rushed for 1,100 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior and was named all-conference and all-area. He had several big hits on the defensive side of the ball.
What makes Deon Williams one of the most sought after prospects in Illinois?
"I have a good combination of speed and power," Williams explained. "I'm strong enough to run inside but I'm fast enough to bounce outside and pick up yards. Once I see daylight, I'm gone."
Williams attended the Iowa camp this past weekend and he plans on hitting camps this summer at Wisconsin, Illinois and Notre Dame as well.
