Ohio athlete names new leader

Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville's Royce Adams has scholarship offers from nearly every Big Ten school and several others including North Carolina. Following his camp experience last weekend in Chapel Hill, now he has a clear favorite.

"Right now, North Carolina stands out," said Adams, who also lists Ohio State, Iowa and Syracuse among his favorites. "I'm already narrowing my decisions down, and talking it over with my parents and my coach."

Adams has also camped at Cincinnati, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio State and Wisconsin, and he'll wrap things up at Buffalo this Sunday. But Carolina is undoubtedly atop his list right now.

"It was just a beautiful place to come visit," he said. "I really got to know the coaches. Usually you just get a bunch of letters and don't get to see their faces. But I got to meet Coach [John] Bunting. He a good person and just had a real positive attitude about everything. That was real good, because I feel more comfortable talking to the head coach than the position coaches.

"It was a great place and I had fun, and I got a chance to see how living on campus would be."

Adams, 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, reportedly runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds. He transferred to Glenville from Lakewood (St. Ed's) after his junior season. There, Adams rushed for 800 yards and nine touchdowns in 2004 while playing tailback. He also had eight interceptions.

Scout.com experts say Adams is being recruited as an athlete, but projects as a cornerback. He could also be used as a return specialist as well.

"I can check man-to-man and I'm good at reading the quarterback's eyes as well as reading the receiver," he said. "I'm quick and I make plays."
